Clayton County broadening anti-discrimination protections on the basis of sex to LGBTQ workers under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) released a letter on August 31st reaffirming its position that Connecticut schools remain out of compliance with Title IX.
Tennessee Man Indicted in Death of Unborn Baby After Kicking Pregnant Woman

A Tennessee man who is accused of kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach during an argument in 2018 has been charged with reckless homicide in the death of her unborn child. Cedric Mingo, 29, was initially charged with assault, but “additional medical information” led to homicide charges being added this week.

MobileCause, a major tech company whose product facilitates companies’ abilities to text with their customers and constituents, has been accused by the Family Research Council (FRC) of abruptly terminating its contract with the tech company just one hour before the scheduled start of an episode of its Pray, Vote, Stand event. With no time to implement a back-up plan, FRC was prevented from sending out text invitations to tens of thousands of our followers to join the broadcast. FRC considers the action discrimination against its religious beliefs.

Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ‘Rewrites’ Sex in Title IX

This week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit became the second federal appellate court to hold that school policies regarding bathroom use based on biological sex is sex discrimination under Title IX, which applies to educational providers that receive any funds from the federal department of education.

State Files Appeal to Reverse Injunction Against Gov. Lee's Abortion Bill

Tennessee’s attorney general has asked a the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit to set aside a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of various provisions of the state’s “laddered” abortion bill.” The bill, signed by Gov. Bill Lee on July 13th makes it a criminal offense for abortion providers to “perform or induce, or attempt to perform or induce, an abortion upon a pregnant woman whose unborn child has a fetal heartbeat.” If that provision is held unconstitutional, then the bill provides nine different stages at which performing an abortion would be a crime.
Anchorage Bans Therapeutic Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Conversion Therapy Involving Minors

On Tuesday, in a 9-2 vote, the Anchorage Assembly passed an ordinance preventing licensed professionals such as therapists and school counselors from engaging in any effort to change a minor’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The ordinance, which supporters argued is necessary to protect youth from abuse and coercion, applies only to licensed professionals, not those acting in a religious capacity, parents, or anyone who is not licensed to provide therapy.
