Tennessee Man Indicted in Death of Unborn Baby After Kicking Pregnant Woman

A Tennessee man who is accused of kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach during an argument in 2018 has been charged with reckless homicide in the death of her unborn child. Cedric Mingo, 29, was initially charged with assault, but “additional medical information” led to homicide charges being added this week.

According to investigators, the incident occurred in March of 2018 when Mingo punched the woman in the face and kicked her in the stomach after she fell to the ground during an altercation. The victim, who was seven months pregnant at the time, later began having difficulties and lost her baby the following month.

Tennessee is one of 38 states across the country that recognizes unborn babies as second victims in violent acts against pregnant women and is one of the 29 states who has extended those protections to cover the unborn during any stage of fetal development. Nevertheless, the United States Supreme Court thinks killing a baby is okay so long as a doctor does it at the request of the tiny victim’s mother.
