Disney-Pixar's Animated Movie With First Openly LGBT Character Releases Soon

The new animated movie Onward opens March 6, and beyond its troublesome witchcraft-laden plot, it marks the first time an openly homosexual character is featured in an animated Disney-Pixar film.
Disney has shown its bent toward same-sex dating relationships for years with animated films like Frozen, Frozen 2, and Beauty & the Beast that have featured characters rumored to be homosexual. However, no character until now has been outright labeled as homosexual or LGBT; instead, Disney has let viewers decide the character’s sexual preferences.
But with Onward, the homosexual nature of one minor character has been spelled out in black and white. Officer Specter, voiced by openly lesbian actress and screenwriter Lena Waithe, is a purple cyclops that appears briefly to tell a driver, “My girlfriend’s daughter got me pulling my hair out.”
Onward producer Kori Rae said this about Officer Specter’s sexual proclivities, “It just kind of happened. It was kind of fitting and it opens up the world a little bit, and that's what we wanted.” Director Dan Scanlon echoed that same sentiment by saying, “It’s a modern fantasy world and we want to represent the modern world.”
The film follows the journey of two elf brothers who team up in a magical, mystical world to resurrect their dead father for a day through a spell.
LifeSiteNews has a petition calling for a boycott of this new Disney-Pixar movie for kids. “Parents and grandparents are sick and tired of Disney’s blatant disregard for their values and morals, and they’re not going to take it anymore,” said Scott Schittle, one of LifeSiteNews’ campaign coordinators. The petition is closing in on its goal of 30,000 signatures.
