9th Circuit Rules Trump Admin Can Strip Abortion Clinics of Funding

The Trump administration’s Protect Life Rule, which requires “clear financial and physical separation between Title X-funded projects and programs or facilities where abortion is a method of family planning” and prohibits “referral for abortion as a method of family planning” can be enforced once again thanks to the latest ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit lifted a temporary injunction against enforcing the rule last June, and the full court affirmed that decision on Monday. In essence, this means that the Trump administration has the constitutional authority to strip Title X funds from clinics that do not physically and financially separate their abortion and family planning operations. Taxpayers who want Planned Parenthood defunded should be cheering at this latest news as a great first step.
Naturally, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund responded by calling the rule “unethical” and “dangerous” and asking for Congress to reverse it. The abortion giant has lost out on $60 million in federal funds because it chose not to comply with the Protect Life Rule. Planned Parenthood withdrew from the Title X federal family planning program in August 2019.
In a statement, Catherine Glenn Foster, Americans United for Life president and CEO, said that AUL was “grateful that the court of appeals has seen through the false cries of the abortion industry and upheld a rule that protects women’s health as well as taxpayer’s consciences.”
