On Monday, the Tennessee House adopted legislation requiring that women wanting information about the abortifacient, RU-486, also be given information about what’s called the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) technique. Specifically, anyone dispensing RU-486 must post information about the reversal technique in the waiting room and inform a woman of the possibility of reversal in person or by phone, depending which way the drug is being dispensed. Failure to comply could result in a $10,000 civil penalty as well as a felony charge. According to Tennessee Right to Life, the abortion pill reversal procedure has saved more than 900 unborn babies across the country. The bill now moves to the state Senate. It is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 9th, but the Senate leadership has consistently said the Senate is not interested in considering legislation not related to the COVID-19 outbreak or the budget shortfall it created.
