Planned Parenthood has officially endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president. Acting President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson called the election a life-and-death issue. “This election is a fight for our country’s very survival,” she said in a press statement while praising Biden for his longstanding support for reproductive rights. “Joe Biden is the only candidate in this race who will stand up for our health and our rights.”
 
Her statement noted Biden’s support for abortion, contraception, and sex education and his role in getting the Affordable Care Act passed as motivations for the endorsement while applauding the reversal of his support of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal spending on abortion.
 
In a video announcing the endorsement, Biden pledged his support for reproductive rights stating, “As President, I’m going to do everything in my power to expand access to quality, affordable health care, including reproductive health care. I’m proud to stand with Planned Parenthood in this fight. "
 
Planned Parenthood has highlighted the contrasts between Biden's record and that of President Trump, who has won praise from abortion rights opponents for appointing conservative judges, and for blocking domestic and international organizations that provide abortions from receiving federal funds to cover other reproductive health care such as birth control and sexually transmitted infection screenings.
