Actor and left-wing political activist George Takei took to Twitter last week to comment on transphobia. Takei's tweet read, "When you defend so-called ‘biological sex,’ you sound scientifically ignorant and you elevate transphobia." Takei's tweet comes in response to 'Harry Potter' author JK Rowling, who has been the recipient of a host of “transphobic” accusations after she joked about an opinion column focused on, “creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.”
 
To support his view that affirming biological sex is “scientifically ignorant,” Takei also retweeted posts from LGBTQ litigation organization Lambda Legal and actress Felicia Day, both of which were critical of Rowling’s comments. However, the actor received backlash from a number of progressives and gays on Twitter, such as one user who tweeted:
 
“You’re throwing females & your fellow homosexuals under the bus. You do realize that ‘gay’ has been redefined so that we’re no longer same-sex attracted, & in stating our same-sex attraction we’re being called transphobic? Support our trans family but accept reality. Sex matters.”
