FRC Preps Lawsuit Against Tech Company Accused of Targeting Them for 'Religious Discrimination'
Oct 23, 2020
This week, The Family Research Council (FRC) sent a letter to MobileCause, a major tech company whose technology facilitates a company’s ability to text their customers and constituents, outlining how their contract termination was a discriminatory act against the Christian organization in violation of California's Unruh Civil Rights Act.
Last month, MobileCause was accused by FRC of abruptly terminating its contract with them just one hour before the scheduled start of an episode of its Pray, Vote, Stand event. With no time to implement a back-up plan, FRC was prevented from sending out text invitations to tens of thousands of followers to join the broadcast. FRC considers the tech company action as an act of discrimination against its religious beliefs.
The letter, sent by Pacific Justice Institute (PJI), a non-profit legal defense organization, stated, "MobileCause has engaged in discriminatory practices against our client in violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act. To avoid litigation, we are asking that MobileCause agree in writing to henceforth cease reliance on Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC’s) hate classification labeling in any way for any purpose."
