2012 Family Champion Award from the Family Policy Alliance (formerly CitizenLink)
At the end of June-beginning of July, Family Action Council of Tennessee was awarded the 2012 CitizenLink Family Champion Award at the annual conference of Family Policy Council leaders. Family Action Council of Tennessee was one of only three of the 38 Family Policy Councils in the nation to receive the award.
FACT President David Fowler attended a gathering of Family Policy Council directors and Alliance Defense Fund attorneys from across the country last week in Naples, Florida.
These pro-family leaders spent the week discussing important issues and strategies to advance the cause of religious liberty and pro-family values in the coming year. During the closing dinner of the week, Tom Minnery, executive director of CitizenLink, presented the 2012 CitizenLink Family Champion Award to David Fowler.
The award was given to commemorate FACT’s work on the passage of HB 600, which protects Tennessee businesses from a confusing array of local ordinances that impose on private businesses “anti-discrimination” personnel policies that go beyond the categories of individuals protected under state law.
Special credit for the success of HB 600 goes to the brave legislators, pastors, and business leaders who stood up to the relentless attacks by opponents of the bill and pressure from the liberal news media, and to Gov. Haslam, who signed HB 600 into law.
